The Rotorua Skyline
During a visit to Rotorua it is An Awesome Experience to take a gondola ride up Mt Ngongotaha to enjoy spectacular panoramic views over Lake Rotorua and the surrounding geothermal areas.
You can opt to take the Luge back down to the bottom of the Mount. The Luge is a unique wheeled gravity ride that provides riders full control over their descent. You can take off downhill on your Luge cate through twists and turns on the purpose built tracks that descend through Redwood forests.
Hells Gate Mud Spa, Rotorua
Visiting the Hells Gate Mud Spa is a real New Zealand experience. Hells Gate is Rotorua’s most active geothermal field, with 50 acres of rumbling and steaming geothermal features. At Hells Gate you will walk past steaming fumeroles and pools of boiling mud so violent that they are unnerving.
Hells Gate takes around an hour to walk through the 2.5km of natural geothermal park. You can also opt to experience Hells Gate Mud Spa where you will take the mud from the ground and massage it on to your skin before soaking in the sulphur pools – everyone is always amazed at how silky smooth their skin feels after this unique experience.
Polynesian Spa
The Polynesian Spa is located in a picturesque, tranquil setting overlooking Lake Rotorua. Here you can unwind and relax in these unique thermal pool spa’s all renowned for their therapeutic properties.
The Lake Spa at the Polynesian Spa is set at 36-42 degrees, landscaped with native flaura, overlooking Lake Rotorua. This bathing area offers a unique environment of tranquility and beauty.
Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, Rotorua
The Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland in Rotorua is New Zealand’s most colorful and diverse volcanic area. Here you can take a number of walks through the wonderland, with walks taking between 30 and 75 minutes. During your walk you will see colors of every tint and hue displayed in pools, lakes, craters, steam vents, mineral terraces and even the tracks you walk on..
The Champagne Pool at the Wai-O-Tapu Wonderland is unique in the world – a fifth of a hectre of bubbling, hissing water with a beautiful ochre-colored petrified edge.
The mud pools are dotted around the grounds, spitting mud into the air.
Agroventures Adventure Park, Rotorua
For the more adventurous visitors there are the thrills of the Agroventures Park in Rotorua. They offer a number of exhilarating attractions including:

- Rotorua’s 43m bungy jump
- The Swoop – swing from 40m towards the ground at 130kmph

There are so many things to do at Agroventures it makes for a great day trip from your cruise ship at the Port of Tauranga. If you are looking for a slightly different shore excursion in New Zealand then this is the activity for you.
Lake Taupo Tour (time permitting)
Lake Taupo is a good two hour drive from the Port of Tauranga, through rolling New Zealand country side, farmlands and Forests. On route we pass by many scenic lakes and geothermal areas. Lake Taupo is itself a crater from one of the biggest volcanic eruptions in world history over 1,800 years ago. The Taupo eruption was recorded as far away as Rome and China where writings tell of the sun in the east being blood like due to the spread of ash.
The Huka Falls in Taupo are one of the most photographed water falls in New Zealand. Releasing 220,000litres of water over the falls per second. You can take the Huka Jet boat from the bottom of the falls, which offers a fantastic thrill ride to the base of the falls lasting half an hour.
Lake Taupo is known world-wide for its trout fishing and we can arrange for a fishing experience, time permitting. You can also stop for a swim in the Lake which is lovely and warm in the summer time, perfect for a refreshing dip before heading back to Tauranga.
